I've been saving up all sorts of goodies for my birthday -- goodies as in free samples from the makeup counters of Nordstrom and Neiman Marcus. I have a little jar of La Mer body lotion which smells like the Avon lotion my grandmother used to use, a mini-tube of Chanel's Sublimage eye cream (I roll on the floor and laugh at the price of this concoction), and a real-size tube of Jo Malone lip balm I purchased last year because I was having surgery and was feeling needy. As nice as this last product is, I find that the 99-cent tube of Chapstick my dentist gives me every 6-months works just as well for me.
So, decked out in emollient creams, a black sundress, and freshly enzymed skin (stay tuned for Wednesday), I'm spending this Visible Monday sniffing a bouquet of orange roses on my desk, lighting a candle, and trying to figure out Facebook. Oh, and I'm going to the gym. Yes, the gym. As I'm now in my 40's, I want cut arms - the kind of arms that look good in halter tops and can throw someone to the ground if they snag the H scarf I want.
Just kidding!
(sort of)
Enjoy what all the other ladies are wearing at Not Dead Yet Style's Visible Monday!

Well happy birthday gorgeous!!! I hope you get those cut arms you want this year! :D
ReplyDeleteThank you, dear! Lots of skull crushers...
DeleteHappy birthday! Love that halter dress, and congrats on all the emollient scores : > Enjoy your barbecue and your 40's!
ReplyDeleteI love a free sample of high end beauty products I'll never purchase. :-)
DeleteThe 40's are off to an awesome start -- much better than the 30's.
Sounds like a great day to me! Except the meat eating part (trying to be vegan). That dress is lovely on you. My tips for cut arms (which I don't have yet): push ups and chair (or counter) dips...if your wrists can tolerate (mine don't too well). And did I ever tell you about the book "Le Personal Coach" (she's French)? Check it out if I haven't. She also recommends the Plank for arms and stomach. "Aim for 1 minute, 3 times a day".
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your day! xo
Dips are murder on my wrists, so instead I do heavy pulleys over my head. And as for the plank...in 10 years of working out, I always succeed in twisting my back doing this exercise. I can do lots of other Pilates moves, but not the plank. Instead, I do machine crunches and some obliques moves.
DeleteMr. Cupcake can hold the plank in various positions for over 2 minutes. I like to hold the stop watch and count.
Happy Birthday! I hate Plank, but it does work . . . Of course, you're a youngster, at 40, so it will be much easier for you. ;-)
ReplyDelete(and wouldn't it be great if we could pick up the cut arms at a samples counter . . . )
I think plank works with certain body types. My husband is 47 and has no problem doing the plank. I can do the plank for about 12 seconds before my back starts feeling that awful knife pinch all over. I wasn't meant to do this exercise.
DeleteI did just complete a big round of obliques where you lay on this torture bench on your side and bend down with a weight, and then back up again. I can do those all day long, and yet I know others who can't do them.
Believe me, if I could do the plank I would! It is the most effective abs exercise!
Happy Birthday Rebekah!
ReplyDeleteLisa from privilege blog swears by the shake weight thingy and her arms are cut...
sounds like you are ready to seize the day with all those potions and that gorgeous dress.
I do this thing called "21's" for bi's and several moves for tri's. Next week I'm going to mix it up and do kettle bells. You have to constantly change your routine to confuse your muscles.
DeleteHappy Birthday Rebekah! I think your plans and your dress sound fabulous. And if you figure out the cut arms thing, let me know! Having Nora killed what little tone I had (though carrying her now seems to be helping).
ReplyDeleteWhy not lift Nora over your head all day long - I'm sure you're already doing much of that already!
DeleteHappy Birthday Rebekah! I'm sure you look gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteThank you!
DeleteHappy Birthday Rebekah, hope you're having a wonderful day. I found that life got better in my 40s, so watch out!!! Looking forward to hearing about your "enzymed skin" on Wednesday!
ReplyDeleteLife in the 40's has been awesome so far! I think it has to do with figuring out life AND having the confidence to finally carry off what it is you want to do. I wish I had that same confidence in my 30's, but then maybe I wasn't ready for it.
DeleteHappy birthday to you...hope your day has been extra-special! I love your black halter dress!
ReplyDeleteCindy at Notes in the Key of Life
I'm giving away a gorgeous Soft Surroundings top!
Thanks, Cindy!
DeleteHappy Birthday! Did you turn 40? I'm actually finding my early 40s to be pretty damn good, I've gotten so much better at asking for what I want and worrying less about what people think. I hope you had a great birthday.
ReplyDeleteCompletely unrelated side note, Adrienne and I are doing 'How I Wear My: Burgundy and Bordeaux' for October. I'm hosting this time so if you have a picture of yourself wearing one of those colors and want to join us, send it my way! I will link back to your blog. I don't really own those colors (my wardrobe is mostly black, navy and gray) so I'm actually going to show accessories. XO, Jill
I turned 40 last year; now I'm a prosaic 41. So far, the 40's are great!
DeleteI don't own anything burgundy! I suppose I should rifle through my stash of accessories and see what I can find. Did you see the burgundy items on Vivienne Files? Gorgeous!!!
Rebekah, that dress is adorable. It looks very good on you.
ReplyDeleteCheers to you for your dedication to exercising. I really struggle with it, but that's going to have to change.
Thank you, Lisa. My exercise routine is a really an exercise of discipline -- I always feel fantastic when it's over because it's over. :-)
DeleteHappy Birthday. Lucky you still being able to wear a halter in Sept. It's layers, cashmere and all things snuggly in the UK now . Hope you had a lovely day Sweets xx
ReplyDeleteOooh, I do like all things snuggly! Two more months until snuggle weather in Texas.
