True to form, I'd pull something out of my fantasies of pre-War English county life. If I'm to-the-manor born and the doyenne of those flower shows and the annual hospital charitable ball, I must look the part and not disappoint the residents!
In my little fantasy, I am of course channelling Kirsten Scott Thomas in Gosford Park.

Flipping through the catalogs that continue to plague my mailbox, I couldn't help but be sucked into the pages of Brooks Brothers. They've evolved into something considerably less stodgy over the last couple of years. While I don't live in Gosford Park or East Hampton, I'm still swooning at the idea of wearing the following:

Monochromatic grey. Sigh....

This one is from Neiman Marcus: Adrienne Landau scarf. With some yummy ankle boots and a bootleg jean....

Not your grandmother's Brooks Brothers. This sums up my entire fashion ideal; this is the essence of MOI. If only my hair would wave...

I already own the glasses, the jeans, and a similar sweater. Where's that birthday money for a another new scarf?
Any one of these are worthy of a stroll through fictional orange-leafed lanes, or at least a glass of deep red on the patio with some bacon-wrapped chicken bits sizzling on the nearby grill.
What's inspiring you for your Autumn wardrobe?

Oooh! I LOVE the jumper with the fur collar. My kind of sweater ;-)
ReplyDeleteOh, yeah.....
Deletelove that grey dress, and since I'm actually in Canada, I could wear it.
ReplyDeleteI could wear the grey dress for a few months, but it's really the color that prevents me. If it were taupe...but then who dresses head-to-toe in taupe. I suppose I ought to learn how!
DeleteI too am in Canada and it is getting close to cashmere weather! I can't wait.
ReplyDeleteCindy
I aired out my cashmere stash this weekend. I am dying to wear all of it...but then I would die of heat stroke if I wore it right now! I'm easing into it with the sleeveless ones (like what I wore on Monday).
DeleteOh gorgeous! Might have to make a stop at Brooks Brothers... Normally in Seattle now I would be pulling out the Fall clothes but we've been having an unexpected heat wave. Heat is relative of course - if it was 88 I would only be thinking of shorts and air conditioning! : )
ReplyDeleteThey are decidedly less stodgy now. You may even go to Bellevue and look at the furry things at Neiman Marcus as inspiration.
DeleteRight now, 88 is quite cool around here. I can't believe Seattle is having such a beautiful Indian Summer!
I am loving the cooler temps. Today I wore a grey jacket over jeans with cognac/british tan ankle boots and handbag. I love that amber/brown color right now. And I always love grey. I bought a grey, v-neck cardigan from Lands End as a Fall staple--but it was too big. Stupidly, I bought it BEFORE I brought my Fall stuff out of storage...forgetting I owned a grey v-neck cashmere sweater already. I hate it when I do stuff like that. Good thing it is too big so it has to be returned.
ReplyDeleteSorry for the ramble...I seriously had to stop myself.
Ah...yes, that is why I dipped into my sweater storage earlier because I was salivating over sweaters in the stores. It was a little like Christmas morning, opening all those little tissue packages with my clean sweaters folded inside. And so I am not in the market for a sweater this year. But accessories....
DeleteI love all these looks. Are we twins separated at birth? I have to tell you, I went to Hermes Wall St. today and tried on the same scarf I THINK you just bought (I'm going to check your other post), in the same colorway. I now have horrible terrible scarf lust and there could be an accident! In any event, it was a gorgeous scarf and it's time for me to move up to a 90cm! XO, Jill
ReplyDeleteHow can anyone not love the fur collar on cashmere sweater?! It is just so IT.
DeleteAs for the 90 cm scarf, I just find it more versatile on me, but then I'm 5'10" and am supposed to wear bigger things. My Parade scarf is a 70 cm, and I love the design and colorway, but I don't find it as useful as the 90 cm. However, if you are a thinner, more petite individual with a long neck to wrap that scarf around, I think it would be most practical to have an accessories drawer full of both sizes!
Oh yes, Gosford Park, I really like that movie! I'm in Canada as well and it's almost the weather for that lovely grey dress, but I'm not sure I'm ready for it yet!
ReplyDeleteI ADORE Gosford Park. Each time I see it, there's something new. And as with your other countrywomen, I am jealous that an item like the gray cashmere dress can be included in your wardrobe.
